Meet Lisa Headley – the proud founder and owner of Take One Take All Fitness. Lisa started her company with the purpose to fulfill personal needs and wants in the athletic wear space. The first was from not wanting to pay the inflated prices of most athletic wear, and the second was seeing a gap in clothing options in the plus size category.

“Athletic apparel has been a part of my life for longer than I can remember, so I decided why not make it a lifelong forever part of my life?” says founder, Lisa Headley.

Take One Take All Fitness (TOTA) is an apparel and activewear company that believes in high-quality clothing. TOTA believes the sky isn’t the limit, but rather the limit is wherever we set it. TOTA takes pride in everyone feeling comfortable in the skin they’re in, especially when wearing their clothes.

When talking to Lisa, the passion she has for her company is contagious. She inspires others to pursue a passion and purpose as she did. Check out some of Lisa’s biggest motivations and life lessons below:

1. Was there an exact moment or experience that pushed you to start your organization? Tell us about it!

From being an athlete into my late teens to being a Physical Education teacher for the last 4 years, I lived in athletic clothing. More importantly, being a plus-sized woman, the variety of clothing options out there was okay but much too expensive. So starting my own line with various sizes, high-quality fabric and affordable price tags was the push I needed to embark on this amazingly difficult yet rewarding journey.

2. Do you have a personal ethos that helps guide your decisions and choices? What is it and where did it come from?

"Forward ever, Backward never" is the personal ethos I live by daily so much so it's tattooed down my right calf. I saw this quote on a statue of Kwame Nkrumah while vacationing in Ghana in 2019. It resonated with me on a visceral level, hence the tattoo. I'm always moving forward and failing upward at times but never looking back. Decision-making as an entrepreneur of a sole proprietorship is scary, because there is no one to fall back on, so I try to surround myself with like-minded individuals.

3. What is the most important lesson you have learned on your entrepreneurial journey?

There's no need to reinvent the wheel – simply meaning someone has done it before me. So I make sure to reach out to individuals doing what I do, ask as many questions as possible, and have fun with it.

4. What type of superpower would you want to have? Why?

This superpower might be a bit weird as an entrepreneur but I would have the power of invisibility. I'm not super comfortable in the spotlight. If I could have my brand and no one knew it was me, I would be happy but I know in this day and age that's not possible, especially with the way social media is a driving force in businesses. Being behind the scenes is comfortable for me, but I force myself to be out interacting with people and creating rapport, as you never know who you may run into.

5. What are your sources of motivation and inspiration? How do you stay motivated/keep your cup full?

My main source of motivation and inspiration comes from my need to be successful in everything I do and my love for athletic clothing. Success to me has always been a driving force ever since my days in school. Nothing ever came easy to me, and fighting through the challenge no matter what is how I'm wired. My love for athletic clothing is the motivation that keeps me going daily as I'm constantly researching ongoing trends, styles, and colorways.
